How to create a Study Plan

Scholarship, earn skills study plan

It’s not uncommon to find students dropping many courses because they are either unable to concentrate or they find it difficult to study daily. Many students fail to create a schedule that can help them study for every course. A schedule is extremely important in order to create a balance between studying different courses for the fact that not all courses need equal time and effort as students find certain courses more difficult than the rest. Moreover, many students have to juggle between other responsibilities of their lives including family, fitness, friends, and games, or other modes of entertainment. To ensure a balance between studies and other aspects of life, a schedule can help you achieve all the goals in less time with a relaxed mind.

1- What Lies Ahead

The first and foremost thing every student needs to do while creating a schedule is to carefully view the syllabus. You need to be very well aware of the syllabus and course content for this course. Carefully review the course content, lesson plans, extra materials needed for this course, and most importantly the guidelines and deadly lines for assignments and midterms. Also, make sure to remember the dates of your family events or university events and conferences so that you can make your study plan accordingly.

2- The key to academic success is the skill of time management

Most of the students struggle with time. They cannot manage time between their daily activities and studies. Some students spend their entire day playing online games or outdoor activities. They usually do not even enjoy the activities as their mind is constantly stressed by the upcoming tests. This happens when students do not know how to prioritize their activities and manage the time accordingly. The tip to get rid of this is to plan your schedule realistically and quite balanced. Do not choose one day to study and one day for games. Instead plan to carry out both your studies and games on a daily basis. List down your extracurricular activities and studies in a way that you study for 2 hours and then you can go out to play. If you choose to play first and then study, you might not have the energy to study and you might not be able to concentrate.

3- Flexibility

You need to make a realistic schedule but the one that is flexible. Leave 10-20 minutes of space between all-time divisions to ensure a more relaxed way of work. Suppose you study two different subjects for 2 hours, make sure that you leave 20 minutes margin as one subject might need more time or you might need a break for 10-20 minutes in between. Moreover, make a schedule in a way that your course and assignments can be finished before time. This way you will not have to wake up completely last night with a lot of stress and anxiety. This might seems difficult initially but with time you will definitely adopt this habit.

4- Make Notes, review, and review

Make notes of every course in a way that during any presentations, assignments, or exams, you will only need to read the notes that can be completed in 1 or 2 hours rather than spending the entire day on this. You do not need to read the entire novel or story again but you just need to review the important points from notes. The note-taking will help you remember things on a daily basis and will save you time during an exam or assignment. So make your study plan in a way that you leave some time to organize your notes on daily basis as well as this can help you remain more organized and relaxed.

5- Critically evaluate your study Ethics and Learning style

Reflect upon your learning style and work ethics honestly. For the development of an effective study plan, you need to follow these steps.

● Carefully evaluate if you are a person who can study better in the morning time, after class, or late at night.
● See if you can study any course during your free time at your college.
● Make a list of the areas you are weak in, whether be it writing, reading, or concentration.
● Prioritize subjects according to your interests.
● Point out the maximum syllabus you can cover in one sit.
● Make a list of extra material you need for any course.
● Remember the instructions and guidelines given in your syllabus.

These steps will help you divide your course content in the most effective manner. Moreover, if you are aware of your studying habits, you can evaluate the habits that can help you to achieve your goals on a daily basis and weekly basis. Creating a Study plan can help you divide your courses and time accordingly. The students who plan in the most effective way are the ones who perform better than others. If you do not know how to manage your time or how to create a balance between your studies and other aspects of life, you are most likely to be messed up in your studies. Almost all of us struggle with consistency but those who do not give up are the ones that meet their academic goals and make the most of their time and energy. So this time, create a study plan and stick to it. You might not have the motivation to follow your study plan every single day and that is why you need to be disciplined and you need to do it even when you feel tired, as giving up will only lead to more miserable situations. It generally takes 30 days to build a habit and once you build this habit, it will help you in all your academic careers.
